Utah Parks – Self Guided Road Trips – Las Vegas Round Trip – 10 Days

This tour is explained clockwise around the parks. You may enjoy the trip either clockwise or counter clockwise.

You can also start at Salt Lake City and start the park visits at Moab and ending at Capitol Reef National Park to return to Salt Lake City.

Day 1 Fly to Las Vegas – pick up your motorcycle or car and drive to Springdale Utah (3 hours) just outside Zion National Park.
Day 2 Enjoy Zion National Park – there are many wonderful hikes to enjoy.
At the end of the road inside the main park of the park past the lodge is the Riverwalk path. Got to the end of the path it’s so beautiful. It’s not a long walk but very enjoyable.
Spending the evening in “downtown” Springdale is enjoyable as there are galleries, shops and restaurants.
Day 3 Travel to Bryce Canyon National Park– Enjoy Bryce Canyon National Park. In six hours you can see most of the view sites in the park. This does not include any hiking. Stay at lodging near the entrance of the park or in the town of Tropic.
Day 4 Enjoy a little more time in Bryce (consider a hike into the Canyon or a mule ride) and then travel east and north on highway 12 through the Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument. Travel over Boulder mountain enjoying the three scenic view sites of the Grand Staircase and Capitol Reef National Park from highway 12. Travel to Torrey then go east into Capitol Reef National Park if time permits. Stay in Torrey.
Day 5 Enjoy some time in Capitol Reef National Park (if this was not visited on day 4) and then continue east on highway 24 to Hanksville, consider a stop at Goblin Valley State Park or at the John Westly Powell River Museum in Green River.
Continue east on I-70 and south on Hwy 191 to Moab.
Stay in Moab.
Day 6 Enjoy Arches National Park and an activity like a Jet Boat trip or Hummer ride.
Make time to do the one hour hike to the Delicate Arch in Arches National Park. This hike is a one hour hike from the parking lot uphill (it takes about 45 minutes to 1 hour) but it’s so wonderful to hike to Delicate Arch. The video in the visitor’s centre is excellent.
Day 7 Enjoy Canyonlands National Park on highway 313 visiting the Mesa Arch (across from the Canyonlands visitors centre and visit Dead Horse Point State Park. At Dead Horse Point State Park you can view the Colorado river from the plateau. Enjoy an evening drive up highway 128 to visit the Utah Film Museum in the basement (free).

Day 8 Travel south on Highway 191 to Blanding and enjoy the Edge of the Cedars State Park Museum. (there is also a very good dinosaur museum in Blanding). Continue south to Highway 163 and turn southwest to the intersection of Highway 261 then go north (less than a mile to Highway 316) to the road to Goosenecks State Park. Plan a 10 minute view stop. This stop is only 15 minutes off the main road but it’s a beautiful scenic overlook of the San Juan river. Return to highway 163 and go southwest continuing to Monument Valley. Do not miss the view at the Navajo Tribal Visitor’s centre which requires the payment of a small entrance fee. ($5 per person as of this writing) and a visit to the trading post. (gift shop)
The view from this facility is the famous Monument Valley view.
Stay in Monument Valley – Reservations highly recommended!
