The Snowy Mountains Rides.

The roads and rides around the Snowy Mountains are some of the best you’ll find anywhere in Australia.

Take in the scenery as you meander through amazing valleys, fertile river plains and incredible mountain peaks. Start your road trip in Canberra and head down the Snowy Mountain Highway towards Cooma, just one hour’s drive away.

The Kosciuszko Alpine Way traverses the Monaro Plain from Cooma, through the lakeside town of Jindabyne (diverting along Kosciuszko Road to Perisher and Charlotte Pass alpine resorts) and past the Thredbo alpine village. From there head down a steep and winding section to pretty Khancoban and on to Corryong (28km away). Cooma to Khancoban is approximately 170km, taking over two hours.

A possible return route could be. All of these routes can be taken in the reverse direction.

The Snowy Valleys Way takes you through beautiful valleys and plains to picturesque Tumbarumba, famous for cold climate wines, then on to the apple area of Batlow and through to Tumut. Khancoban to Tumut is about 140km, with pretty Tumbarumba just over half-way (worth a stop).

The Snowy Mountains Highway takes you back from Tumut along high country valleys and peaks, past Yarrangobilly Caves and on to the Big Trout at Adaminaby, then back to Cooma. Tumut to Cooma is about 180km, just over two hours ride.

Additional Rides

Cooma to Bombala via the Monaro Highway, back to Jindabyne along Snowy River Way is a scenic route along fertile valleys, farmlands and the boulder-filled landscapes of the Monaro Plains. Take the Elliot Way/Link Rd that cuts through the Kosciuszko National Park past Cabramurra and Selwyn Snow Resort starting from just outside Tumbarumba or Kiandra from either end.
