A day trip out of Sydney (248 km – On the bike time 4 hours).
Our journey kicks off in Liverpool, cruising to Warragamba to take in the impressive sights of Sydney’s largest dam. We’ll first explore the dam itself and then continue our ride for a glimpse further upstream.
Next on the itinerary is Thirlmere, where we’ll visit the railway museum adorned with vintage engines and rolling stock from days long gone. A brief food break awaits us in Thirlmere before we hit the road again, opting for an old backroad that winds through small villages along the Southern Rail line, steering clear of the motorway. Eventually, we’ll briefly join the highway en route to Mittagong, where industrial history beckons. Lunchtime calls, and we’ll be on the lookout for one of the popular pie shops to refuel our bodies.
With our bodies recharged, we’ll journey to the next lookout, savouring the panoramic views to the north and south of the Southern Highlands. As we make our way back home, we’ll veer away from the motorway, opting for the old Hume Highway to soak in the historical significance of the route.
The end of our ride is our starting point of Liverpool. Here we may squeeze in a coffee or tea as we bid farewell until our next exhilarating ride.
