YOUR DAY ON THE ROAD

There are motorcycle rides, and then there are days you remember.

The Grand Pacific Ride is designed to showcase some of the very best riding and scenery.

It is within easy reach of Sydney.

Starting in Sutherland, we leave the city behind.

We head into Royal National Park.

We then reach the Illawarra coast.

From rainforest and sandstone cliffs to the open Pacific Ocean, the route follows one of Australia’s most spectacular coastal drives before turning inland through the green hills and winding roads of the Southern Highlands.

And the best part?

You don’t have to worry about finding the way.

Ride The World Australia takes care of the route, navigation and group riding, allowing you to concentrate on the road, the scenery and enjoying the ride.

THE ROUTE

Sutherland → Royal National Park → Bald Hill → Sea Cliff Bridge → Wollongong → Kiama → Jamberoo → Robertson → Kangaroo Valley → Sutherland

The Grand Pacific Drive officially begins in the Royal National Park and extends approximately 140 kilometres through the Illawarra and South Coast, including Wollongong, Shellharbour and Kiama.

🏍️ DEPARTURE — SUTHERLAND

We meet in Sutherland for a rider briefing, introduction to the group and final bike checks. This can be change to a groups’ requirement.

Before heading out, your Ride The World tour leader will cover:

  • The day’s route
  • Planned fuel and rest stops
  • Group riding procedures
  • Communication and hand signals
  • Safety considerations
  • What to expect from the day’s roads

Then it’s time to fire up the bikes and the adventure begins.

ROYAL NATIONAL PARK

Our first kilometres take us through the magnificent Royal National Park, one of Australia’s great natural playgrounds.
The park covers approximately 16,000 hectares and stretches between Sydney and Wollongong, combining rainforest, bushland, beaches and dramatic coastal landscapes.
For a motorcycle rider, it’s a wonderful way to start the day.
The city disappears.
The traffic thins.
The road starts to twist.
And suddenly you’re surrounded by Australian bush.

BALD HILL LOOKOUT

We stop at Bald Hill, one of the great viewpoints on the Illawarra coast.
From the lookout there are expansive views south towards Wollongong and along the spectacular coastline. Bald Hill also has an interesting connection with Australian aviation pioneer Lawrence Hargreaves, who conducted an important flight experiment on the beach below in 1894.
It’s an ideal first major photo stop.
Helmets off, Coffee, Cameras.
Then back on the bikes.

SEA CLIFF BRIDGE

From Bald Hill we descend towards one of the day’s signature experiences—the Sea Cliff Bridge.
At 665 metres long, the bridge curves out over the Pacific Ocean and has become one of the icons of the NSW coastline.
Ride across.
This is the Grand Pacific Ride.

WOLLONGONG & THE COAST

We continue south along the coast past Wollongong to Kiama.
This section gives riders a constantly changing view of the Illawarra coastline—beaches on one side and the escarpment rising dramatically on the other.
The official Grand Pacific Drive continues through the coastal towns towards Kiama, combining rainforest, beaches, cliffs and coastal communities.

KIAMA

We arrive in Kiama, one of the South Coast’s best-known seaside towns.
The famous Kiama Blowhole is an obvious attraction, but Kiama also has a fascinating history connected with cedar gathering, quarrying and early European settlement.
A good motorcycle tour isn’t about ticking boxes.
It’s about having time to enjoy the places you’ve ridden to.

KIAMA TO JAMBEROO

We leave the coast and head into the countryside.
The road towards Jamberoo changes character almost immediately.
Green hills.
Dairy country.
Tight corners.
Open sweeping bends.
This is where the ride becomes less about the destination and more about the sheer pleasure of being on a motorcycle.

JAMBEROO TO ROBERTSON

We ride up to the Southern Highlands via the winding roads from Jamberoo to Robertson.
The Kiama region specifically highlights the route through Jamberoo towards Robertson, with attractions including Minnamurra Rainforest, Carrington Falls and the surrounding highland scenery.
Depending on the group’s timing and conditions, we can include a short scenic stop along this section.

ROBERTSON

We arrive at the Robertson Pie Shop for lunch. A very popular location due to the great variety of pies and pastries.

KANGAROO VALLEY

From Robertson we head to Kangaroo Valley, one of the most picturesque inland sections of the tour.
The landscape changes again.
The road winds through rolling countryside and forest before descending into the valley.
It’s a spectacular contrast to the morning’s ocean scenery.
Pacific Ocean in the morning.
Highlands at lunchtime.
Kangaroo Valley in the afternoon.
That’s what makes this ride special.

THE JOURNEY HOME

From Kangaroo Valley we begin our return towards Sydney via The Lookout at Cambewarra Mountain then back down to the coast to Nowra or Berry.
This will be an opportunity for a view to the NSW South Coast and a final break before we make our way back towards Sutherland.
As the afternoon light changes, the group heads home with a day of riding, photographs and stories to take with them.

BACK TO SUTHERLAND

We finish where we started—Sutherland.

But after a full day riding through some of NSW’s most spectacular landscapes, it won’t feel like the same place.

WHY RIDE THE GRAND PACIFIC?

It’s an opportunity to experience NSW from the seat of a motorcycle, without having to worry about planning every turn.
